Andrew Luck hasn't taken a snap in an NFL game since 2018, but a brief clip of him throwing a football has the football world buzzing like it's 2012 all over again.
The former Indianapolis Colts quarterback was on the practice field at Stanford this week, tossing passes to tight end Zach Ertz. Ertz, who is rehabbing from an ACL injury and hoping for one more NFL stint, was the intended focus of the video. But it was Luck's arm that stole the show.
Stanford's football program shared the footage on Aug. 4, and within hours, social media was flooded with fans marveling at the sight of the four-time Pro Bowler still slinging it with precision.
"Keep the camera on 12 I wanna see if he's still got it," one fan wrote. Another simply commented, "Still got it." A third asked, "How many NFL QBs is current Luck better than?" while another wondered, "What would Andrew Luck's stat line be this season if he walked on to a team in his current build/shape?"
The reaction echoes the fan frenzy that often follows a beloved athlete resurfacing in an unexpected way.
Luck, selected No. 1 overall in 2012, was hailed as the most promising quarterback prospect since Peyton Manning. He lived up to the hype, throwing for 23,671 yards and 171 touchdowns in just six seasons. But after a series of injuries, including a lacerated kidney and a shoulder issue, he walked away from the game at just 29 years old, stunning the NFL world.
Since then, Luck has stayed mostly out of the spotlight. In November 2024, he took on the role of general manager for Stanford's football program, a job he says he's excited about despite the challenges.
"I'm very thankful for what football has given me," Luck said at the time. "In many, many ways on many, many levels. Stanford is one of those deeper levels. There's something about it, especially the people there. This is going to be a daunting challenge. It's a steep climb. But I'm fired up."
Barring a sudden change of heart, Luck is expected to remain in that front-office role for the 2026 college football season. But that hasn't stopped fans from dreaming about a comeback — and this latest video only fuels the speculation.
While some fans are holding out hope that Luck will eventually run an NFL team, others are simply enjoying the nostalgia of watching him fire darts to Ertz on a college practice field. As one social media user put it, "The man hasn't lost a thing."
Whether Luck ever returns to the gridiron remains to be seen, but this week's clip proves one thing: his arm is still a topic of conversation — and maybe even a source of hope.
