The football world is buzzing after a leaked TMZ video showed future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald working out at the Los Angeles Rams' practice facility on Friday. The footage, which quickly went viral, has all but confirmed what many suspected: the 35-year-old defensive tackle is seriously considering a return to the NFL.
Donald retired after the 2023 season with an incredible resume: 543 tackles, 260 quarterback hits, 111 sacks, and 24 forced fumbles. He also left with a Super Bowl ring, but the lure of another championship—especially after the Rams landed Myles Garrett in a blockbuster trade—appears to be pulling him back onto the field.
“Here’s what I would tell you guys overall, too: Aaron is a guy that I stay really close in touch with, and I know the respect that he has for Myles,” Rams head coach Sean McVay said, via Pro Football Talk. “Talked to him about the opportunity to bring [Garrett] on board. If Aaron decides he wants to dust ‘em off at the age of 35, I bet you he can still do it at a pretty high clip.”
The video, released by TMZ, shows Donald going through drills at the team's facility—a strong hint that he's not just talking about a comeback. The question now is whether he'll actually suit up for the Rams' season opener against the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 10.
What Would Donald Bring to the Rams?
Former Rams tackle Andrew Whitworth believes Donald still has plenty left in the tank. “It’s going to be a huge impact, I think we all know that. I think one of the big things, too, it’s not just his play but the way this guy goes about his business,” Whitworth said, via Turf Show Times. “There’s going to be a lot of young guys who can follow him and really the day-by-day consistency he goes by chasing his craft to be excellent at it.”
Donald's presence would not only bolster the Rams' defensive line but also provide a veteran mentor for younger players. His work ethic and intensity are legendary, and pairing him with Garrett would create one of the most fearsome pass-rushing duos in recent memory.
The Rams are already shaping up to be contenders in the NFC West, and the recent loss of Rams legend LeRoy Irvin has only deepened the team's resolve. Adding Donald back into the mix would be a huge emotional and strategic boost.
For now, Rams fans can only wait and watch as Donald continues to test his body. But if his latest workout is any indication, the future Hall of Famer is ready to make one more run at glory.
